Welcome to the first edition of the A Horse of Course Exchange! In 2024, this will be run as a flash exchange, but if all goes well I hope to run it full-length starting next year.

This is a multifandom flash exchange centered around horses. Actual horses, sentient horses, characters magically transformed into horses, horse-adjacent magical creatures (centaurs, kelpies, pegasus, unicorns, etc), and pony play are all welcome. If anyone's here from Battleship, no, seahorses are not horses. Hippocampi will be accepted, however.

Nominations

• Freeforms must be horse-related and should not be specific to a particular fandom or character.
• Creator's Choice of Fandom, Original Works, and Crossover Fandom are all allowed. All crossovers should be nominated under Crossover Fandom.
• Relationships should follow alphabetical order and disambiguate the fandom at the end.
• Solo characters must be nominated as "Solo: [Character Name] (Fandom)" and it will be assumed you want that character to be the horse in some way. If this is not true, please nominate the character & a horse or horse-adjacent creature.
• AMT fandoms are permissible and can be nominated as-is, or as individual fandoms. Critical Role is a personal exception: All Exandria content should be nominated as "Critical Role (Webseries)" and not as individual campaigns.

Sign-Ups

• You must request at least 3 unique fandoms with at least 1 relationship and 1 freeform for each.
• You must offer at least two unique fandoms with at least 1 relationship and 1 freeform for each.
• Only DNWs included in the AO3 sign-up will be enforced. Mods will not be checking gifts.
• If you would like content such as pony play, opt-ins are encouraged by not required.
• Letters and additional details beyond DNWs are optional.
• Well-behaved socks are allowed.

Matching

• Matching is by fandom, relationship, and freeform.
• Unmatchable sign-ups will be deleted. Please check to make sure you're matchable before sign-ups close.

Assignments

• Minimums are 300 words for fic or a clean sketch on unlined paper for art. It must contain one relationship and at least one freeform in the recipient's request and respect their DNWs.
• AI-generated works are not permitted in this exchange.
• Gifts are not guaranteed.
• Pinch hits will be posted on the EAD Discord.

Treats

• There is no minimum word count for treats and you do not have to be signed up to submit one.
• Treats are opt-out so if you do not want to receive them, please include that in your sign-up. As a reminder, the default setting for new AO3 accounts disallows gifts so it's worth checking to make sure you're open to treats if you would like them!
